GETTING READY

Before you call to book your sod order, you need to do a bit of yard preparation to ensure a great finish. Clearing the area of all debris such as twigs, rocks & other things that aren't dirt is essential to ensure a great finished lawn. Next you will need to level the area. Depending on how much leveling you have to do and the size of the area you can use a hand-rake or you may need to use a bobcat. Once you've completed the leveling, you can spread your topsoil. We recommend no less than 3" (but 4-5 is better). Next, roll it to compact the fluffy topsoil. This will reveal any low spots that will need to be filled with more topsoil. Not filling these areas will lead to pooling of water which will damage your lawn.

If your topsoil becomes too dry, you may want to dampen it slightly to eliminate dust. Right before you lay your sod, you will apply the #1 (soil-based) fertilizer. The sod is installed right on top.
